This is book 2 in
the Waterfire Saga series. We join Serafina and her friends in a search for the
six talismans belonging to the original six mages. Serafina discovers her
feelings for the mermaid Blu, a member of the Praedatori are warranted because
he is Mahdi in disguise! She teams up with him to lead the Black Fin
resistance, where we are introduced to the cute little character of a girl
mermaid, Coco.
I only gave book one, Deep Blue, 2.5 stars because of the jarring way the POVs were handled. This book developed the storyline better and the different POVs transitioned more smoothly. We still only focus mainly on Serafina and Neela, which is disappointing (but SPOILER – book three, Dark Tide, lets us in on all the other girls and their journeys.)
Mahdi must risk his life to go undercover:
I only gave book one, Deep Blue, 2.5 stars because of the jarring way the POVs were handled. This book developed the storyline better and the different POVs transitioned more smoothly. We still only focus mainly on Serafina and Neela, which is disappointing (but SPOILER – book three, Dark Tide, lets us in on all the other girls and their journeys.)

I love how much Serafina grows in this book:
“Serafina’s back was straight, her head was high. There was a
dangerous new light in her eyes.” -pg 294
You do not see the ending coming. Ling gets captured by Rafe Laoro Mfeme and if you rearrange his name, you’ll discover who this villain truly is!
Overall, this was a good second book and I do recommend going on to book three. The fourth book, Sea Spell, is due out June 14th next year.
